Bumpkin Owners Want New Site

Blaze club will be rebuilt

“Blaze club will be rebuilt”

The owners of the burnt-out Country Bumpkin disco club in Andover are frantically searching for temporary premises.
The club in East Street was demolished in a blaze on Sunday. Damage is estimated at about £100,000.

Police and fire brigade are still investigating the cause of the biggest fire in Andover centre for 25 years.
The club – a popular spot with young people in the town – is owned by Mr. Patrick Langdown, an accountant, who is on holiday with his wife in Spain.

His sons, Mark, manager of the club, and Pat yesterday had talks with Test Valley council and estate agents in their search for premises suitable for a disc club.
Said Mark:
“We intend to rebuild the club as soon as possible, unless we come across any huge problems.
But, in the meantime, we want to continue to provide entertainment for the kids of Andover who have now really nowhere else to go.
A disco club is a necessity in Andover.
The sooner we find somewhere the better. We have had to lay off 20 staff, many of them part timers, and would like to re-employ them”.

Test Valley Mayor, Councillor Laurie Porter, said:
“I’m sad the club has gone because it did serve a useful purpose in providing entertainment for the young people of the town.
It is regrettable that we should lose such facilities.
I hope that the proprietors can find an alternative place of entertainment"
