Country Bumpkin may move from centre
PLANS to re-site Andover’s Country Bumpkin club destroyed by fire last year have won the backing of the town’s Chamber of Trade.
Two applications which would establish a new-look Country Bumpkin entertainment centre on a site near Enham Arch in Newbury Road, Andover, has been agreed in principle by Test Valley planners.
Planning officers have been instructed to negotiate with the applicants, Anton Promotions, owners of the gutted club, about a new site.
The Chamber of Trade has said Enham Arch would be preferable to the club’s original site in East Street.
Many of the young people who used the club live on housing estates close by Enham Arch, making it a more convenient site for them, says the chamber.
There would be less trouble for chamber members with businesses in the town centre, they add.
Members are seeking a joint meeting with Romsey Chamber of Trade to fight planned rises in car park charges in Test Valley.
Andover members feel that comparing Test Valley charges with those in Southampton and Bournemouth is “unrealistic”.
They argue the pair offers a wider range of services and choice of trade.
