Plans are now in hand for entertainment in a big way

Plans are now in hand for entertainment in a big way An ambitious five-year plan to provide Andover with an entertainment complex is planned by Anton Promotions, the local firm which ran the country Bumpkin, recently destroyed by fire in the town.

A spokesman fro the company told the “Advertiser” this week
“We have had a tremendous amount of support from members of the general public and a lot of borough councillors, some involved with the town and even those not of the town as such who have said Andover needs the facility and someone has to provide it somewhere”.

Anton Promotions want the to site the complex on the area occupied by the old Jehovah’s Witness hall and a disused factory building at Enham Arch and their planning application came before the northern area committee on Thursday but was differed.

The spokesman for the Bumpkin management said the company’s first step, if permission for the Newbury Road site was granted, would be to replace the dance hall and then embark on the longer plane for an entertainment complex which, he said:
“There is no doubt that Andover needs”.
He continued:”I have not personally received any objections to our plans although I understand that there is a petition against us going back to East Street and I understand there is a petition being raised on an estate near Enham Arch, although I did not know there was objections from the factories.
“It is quite understandable, no-one wants it next door. I am hoping we will get a decision in February. If we do not we shall have to consider very, very seriously just going ahead at East Street where I do not consider we can be refused permission at the end of the day”.
