“YES” To out of town site for Bumpkin
Councillors on Test Valley’s northern area planning sub-committee have agreed in principle that the Country Bumpkin can be rebuilt at Enham Arch.
The former Country Bumpkin at East Street was destroyed by fire last year and since then a search has been on for an alternative site.
The East Street site was plagued with noise problems and there is opposition from neighbours living nearby to the club being rebuilt there.
Anton Promotions, who ran the club, have applied for outline planning permission for a replacement dance hall, private function and entertainment complex at East Street.
The council has asked for more information about the design, access and siting of the proposed building.
An exchange of the council-owned land at Enham Arch and the land in East Street is being considered.
But before a value can be fixed on the East Street site it must be known what the land could be used for in the future.
The applicants want to develop a complete entertainment centre at Enham Arch – providing dancing, disco, snooker hall, conference and reception rooms, catering and bowling alley.
Principal planning officer Derek Fraser told councillors they had asked for further information about the East Street proposal because they wanted to be sure the same problems were not repeated.
