Can't remember this particular night, but John Clark became the top DJ at the Bumpkin, playing some of the best soul music around. He was definately instrumental in making the Bumpkin one of the best soul clubs in the South - mainly Mon nights (downstairs) and Sun nights (upstairs) and of course Wed reggae nights. Mon nights were most popular with crowds coming from Reading, Basingstoke, Bournemouth, Swindon etc etc. On a par with the Goldmine (Canvey Island) and the Brunel Rooms (Swindon) to name but two.
